Matthew S. Lerner

Matthew S. Lerner, a partner in our Albany office, is the Chair of the firm's Appellate Advocacy Practice Group.  Matt has successfully argued appeals at New York's Highest Court, all four Appellate Division Departments, and the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  He has also authored amicus curiae briefs for a national non-profit organization that represents American and international product manufacturers.

Matt attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science.  At SUNY at Buffalo Law School, he served as a publications editor of the Buffalo Law Review.

He concentrates his practice on appellate advocacy, insurance coverage, construction worksite injury, and insurance defense.  Upon joining the firm, Matt helped to defend an international manufacturer against a nationwide class action. Before Mr. Lerner joined Goldberg Segalla LLP, he served as a confidential clerk for the New York Court of Appeals from 1999 to 2002.

Matt publishes one of New York's first Weblogs dedicated to New York civil law.  As opposed to law firm Websites, Matt's Weblog, "New York Civil Law," provides new content almost each business day to the World Wide Web.  "New York Civil Law" focuses on current legal events in New York, New York appellate issues, insurance coverage and defense issues, Labor Law and tort law issues.  "New York Civil Law" contains numerous case summaries and links to the published court decisions.
