Dove A. E. Burns

Practice Groups

Dove Burns is Co-Chair of the firm’s Employment and Labor Practice Group. She defends corporate clients and executives, professional service providers, multibillion-dollar international restaurant chains, hospitals, municipalities, housing authorities, nonprofits, and boards of directors in a variety of high-exposure employment law and professional liability matters. She has tried numerous cases to verdict and has resolved disputes through arbitration, mediation, and conciliation.

Her extensive professional liability experience includes defending lawyers, mental health professionals, architects, engineers, real estate professionals, property managers, and registered representatives regulated by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in a wide range of claims alleging errors and omissions or other forms of negligence.

In addition, Dove handles a broad array of matters involving employment law and employment practice liability (EPL) claims. She defends executives in matters involving allegations of wrongdoing, including claims of sexual misconduct, racial harassment, and corporate malfeasance. She has substantial experience handling complex wage and hour matters as well as actions involving the False Claims Act, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigations, and the Connecticut Fair Employment Practices Act. She represents clients in employment-related matters before various state and federal agencies, including the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the U.S. Departments of Labor and Health.

Dove has notable experience in litigation involving non-compete agreements, which includes providing successful counseling and obtaining injunctive relief to help clients enforce their rights and prevent the leakage of proprietary and trade information.

Her experience also includes securities and antitrust litigation, special education law, and condominium/co-op law, as well as general liability, municipal liability, and commercial matters.

Dove regularly provides proactive counsel to employers, handles employment and severance agreements, drafts policy manuals and other management documents, and conducts training sessions to help employers minimize the risk of litigation.
