Richard J. Cohen and Michael T. Glascott Inducted Into American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel

Goldberg Segalla partners Richard J. Cohen and Michael T. Glascott have been inducted into the invitation-only American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel (ACCEC), an organization comprised of only approximately 130 lawyers in the United States and Canada.

ACCEC was formed in 2012 to improve the quality of the practice of insurance law. The College — which counts Goldberg Segalla’s Thomas F. Segalla as its founding President — brings together the top insurance lawyers in the U.S. and Canada to focus on the creative, ethical, and efficient adjudication of disputes between policyholders and insurers over insurance coverage as well as extracontractual damages.

The inductions of Mr. Cohen and Mr. Glascott, as well as the position of Mr. Segalla, underscore Goldberg Segalla’s leadership in the insurance industry. This was highlighted recently this fall when the firm was runner-up — by only six-hundredths of a point — for Intelligent Insurer’s Global Law Firm of the Year award, placing Goldberg Segalla among the very best law firms serving the insurance and reinsurance industries worldwide.

Mr. Cohen is Goldberg Segalla’s Managing Partner, a founding partner of the firm, and Co-Chair of its Global Insurance Services Practice Group. Under his direction, Goldberg Segalla has grown dramatically, from seven founding partners to more than 170 lawyers, with 10 offices in the United States and another in Europe. Mr. Cohen’s leadership extends beyond the firm, and is displayed throughout the insurance industry. One example is his role as Chairman Emeritus of the National Committee for the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. Mr. Cohen is rated AV Preeminent, was selected for inclusion in Upstate New York Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America, and was named to Business First’s Legal Elite. His practice involves sophisticated insurance coverage and bad faith matters, reinsurance, and D&O and E&O litigation.

Mr. Glascott is a partner in Goldberg Segalla’s Global Insurance Services Practice Group. His practice includes complex insurance coverage, bad faith, commercial litigation, and tort and New York labor law litigation. He received the John Alan Appleman Award as Outstanding Chairperson of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) while serving as Chair of the Insurance Coverage Section; he serves as a member of the FDCC’s Board of Directors, as Vice-Chair of its Insurance Industry Committee, and as its Coordinator of State Representatives for the Eastern States. Mr. Glascott is rated AV Preeminent and has been selected for inclusion in Upstate New York Super Lawyers and Business First’s Who’s Who in Law.
