Ryan Pitman is a commercial litigator and business counselor whose practice spans the construction, energy, manufacturing, real estate, and food and beverage industries. With a particular focus on conventional and renewable energy infrastructure development and construction, Ryan works with clients to efficiently and effectively resolve the complex legal disputes that often arise in bringing large-scale infrastructure projects to market.
Ryan recently represented a contractor in a complex matter relating to a multi-county publicly financed distributed generation solar project in New Jersey, in which the contractor was awarded more than $60 million after a multi-week hearing before the American Arbitration Association. In addition to ongoing representations concerning solar projects in New Jersey and Colorado, Ryan is also engaged in litigation and counseling concerning natural gas pipeline construction in the Marcellus Shale region and wind turbine construction in Northern Ontario.
Ryan also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to representing clients in trademark disputes across various industries, with a focus in the food and beverage field. He recently obtained a favorable decision in an action in which the plaintiff — claiming exclusive rights in a geographic descriptor — sought to prohibit his client, a restaurateur, from using its chosen geographically descriptive trade name. Ryan is also experienced in disputes relating to shareholder conflicts, commercial leases, sales agreements, promissory notes, and loan sale agreements, as well regulatory compliance actions and government investigations.
