Wes Gerrie defends corporations in negligence, premises liability, product liability, and other tort claims, working closely with members of the firm’s Business and Commercial practice to deliver cost-effective defenses and global solutions based on each client’s business model, immediate needs, and long-term objectives. He works with clients in health care, handling matters involving medical malpractice, catastrophic injury, and death, including class actions; as well as municipal clients, handling matters involving general liability and zoning. In addition, Wes handles sports and entertainment matters involving general liability and defamation.

Wes graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law, where he was a member of the Justinian Honor Society, a member of the Student Leadership Committee, and executive editor of the Syracuse Law Review; he was also a recipient of the Law Review Distinguished Leadership Award and the Student Organization Award. Wes served as public relations and social media chair, vice president, and finally president of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society, and took 2nd Place in the 2015 International Hockey Arbitration Competition. He was also a Student Mentor, a Head Academic Success Fellow, and a member of the SUCOL Ice Hockey Team. Following graduation, he was elected to the Order of the Coif. Before entering law school, Wes earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a specialization in Brand Management and Marketing from Wilfrid Laurier University. At Laurier he was McDonald House Residence Vice President, a WLU Student Ambassador, executive chair member of the Sports Management Club, and a member of the Laurier Law Society.

Before earning his law degree and passing the bar, Wes was a summer associate with Goldberg Segalla, where he focused on general liability cases in the retail and hospitality and sports and entertainment industries and intellectual property claims in business and commercial matters. In addition, he assisted with negligence and tort cases in construction as well as product liability and business and commercial matters, and also contributed to the firm’s award-winning Sports and Entertainment Law Insider blog.

Wes also gained experience in an externship with the Syracuse University Office of Technology Transfer, where he worked on copyright and trademark applications, research agreements, and licensing agreements, along with analyzing and drafting contracts and participating in negotiations. After this, he served the university as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) compliance intern. He also gained experience in budget analysis and marketing strategies working in the health care and software sectors.
