Our firm’s Governmental Liability Practice Group has enjoyed tremendous success in the defense of municipal clients throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Comprised of nearly 20 attorneys firm-wide, our municipal group has provided counsel to numerous municipal entities including towns, cities, villages, counties, school districts, police agencies, jails, fire districts, governmental agencies and public utilities.
Our firm’s experience includes constitutional challenges, employment discrimination and harassment, sexual abuse, Title VII and Title IX actions, as well as personal injury allegations against our municipal clients. In addition, we have enjoyed great success in defending false arrest and police brutality claims, sex and age discrimination and construction defect and breach of contract actions for municipalities. On the cutting edge of municipal litigation issues, we have great expertise in the rapidly growing area of electronic discovery. We have also enjoyed continued success in the use of Daubert motion practice to challenge the qualifications, reliability, methodology and relevancy of purported expert testimony by plaintiffs in civil litigation. We have represented countless municipal clients in state and federal court and have rendered great assistance to our clients not only in the courtroom, but also guiding our municipal clients and their carriers through the precarious nature of public entity litigation, which includes the proper handling of the media and intense public scrutiny. Many of these cases stir very great passion, not only from the parties involved but from the community at large.
Our insurance coverage attorneys have great experience in the municipal arena as well. In addition to issuing insurance coverage opinions and participating in declaratory judgment actions in municipal insurance disputes, several of our coverage attorneys serve on carrier review boards for municipal policy evaluations. Additionally, our Governmental Liability Practice Group also represents individual municipal entities in matters involving contract negotiation, capital improvement undertakings, risk management, collective bargaining and labor relations, zoning, administrative investigations and proceedings, and accident investigation.
Moreover, our attorneys work closely with our carriers to provide in-house training to their claims representatives as well as insured seminars to share the wealth of experience we have in the municipal field.
