Team Mya Rose Raises $11,500 — and Counting — in the Fight Against Childhood Cancer October 2011

Goldberg Segalla takes pride in fighting for our clients’ best interests as well as for important causes in our community. This summer, we took up another worthy fight — the fight to eradicate pediatric cancer. Thanks to the generous support of many clients and friends of the firm, we have so far raised more than $11,500 in the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s Livestrong Challenge — and we are continuing this effort through the close of the donation period on November 30, 2011.

As you may know, our dear friend and partner Mike Brophy is witnessing firsthand the devastation cancer causes to its youngest and must vulnerable victims. Mike’s granddaughter, Mya Rose — who just celebrated her second birthday on September 29 — was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma earlier this year. Despite undergoing rigorous chemotherapy treatment at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Mya Rose’s spirit remained strong, and she did not let her ailment curtail her infectious smile or her love of her favorite treat, cupcakes.

Her strength and spirit inspired our firm to sponsor Team Mya Rose in the Livestrong Challenge race in Philadelphia, which was held August 20-21. It demonstrated the power of teamwork, as members of Goldberg Segalla’s Philadelphia, Princeton and White Plains offices all banded together to make the event itself, along all the fundraising done in connection with it, an overwhelming success. Special thanks to our Princeton office for coordinating our team effort.

Late in September, we received the best news of all. Following her difficult surgery earlier in the month, Mya Rose’s test results showed that her cancer went into remission. Her fight is far from over, but we are grateful she was able to enjoy cupcakes for her second birthday at home with her family and friends.

And we will continue our fight. Our goal is to do what we can to help prevent another person, especially a child like Mya Rose, from ever having to live through cancer.

If you would like to make a contribution, please visit our fundraising page to make a donation before November 30, 2011.

We thank everyone who has supported Team Mya Rose, Goldberg Segalla and the Lance Armstrong Foundation in fighting this disease.
