Deborah A. Winokur, Director of Professional Responsibility, focuses on issues pertaining to legal ethics in a variety of contexts.

Deb dedicates a portion of her time to pro bono work, including representing clients through the Defender Association of Philadelphia, where she once successfully reduced a death penalty sentence to a life sentence for a mentally impaired capital prisoner in post-conviction proceedings. She also volunteers with the Campaign for Working Families Tax Clinic, the Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program, and the Homeless Advocacy Project.

Deb is an active member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, where she is the co-chair of the Professional Responsibility Committee and a member of the Professional Guidance Committee, and conducts continuing legal education (CLE) seminars on risk management and ethics issues. She is also a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Prior to pursuing her juris doctor at Columbia Law School, where she was on the staff of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law, Deb earned her bachelor’s in urban studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
