Lisa P. Gruen focuses her practice on representing clients in a variety of civil actions in the areas of product liability, fire law, premises liability, professional liability, medical devices, construction defect, and toxic tort. Lisa counsels and defends manufacturers and distributors in claims involving catastrophic personal injury and property damage at fire scenes, and has defended numerous lawsuits relating to consumer and industrial products for national and international manufacturing and service corporations. In addition, she has significant experience in matters involving subrogation defense, bad faith, wrongful death, and attorney malpractice.

Lisa’s jury trial experience includes representing clients in venues throughout Central and Southern California. She has handled multiple cases in U.S. District Court in matters concerning the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Lanham Act, products liability, patent infringement, and trademark infringement cases. She has also mediated hundreds of cases in all areas of civil liability defense.

Prior to attending Wayne State University School of Law, Lisa received her bachelor’s in political science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is a leader within her community and regularly fundraises for Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

Representative Matters
  • Obtained a defense verdict in a legal malpractice trial wherein it was alleged that the attorney failed to communicate with the client and failed to obtain the best resolution despite having reduced statutory liens on recovery from over $70K to $1K
  • Succeeded in a motion for summary judgment upholding the defendant’s liability waiver in a case where a minor plaintiff was injured during a sanctioned bicycle race
  • Prevailed on a binding arbitration involving the mutual cross-complaints of a property owner and elevator maintenance company in which judgment was obtained for all monies paid in the underlying settlement plus $60,000+ in attorney fees and costs
  • Successfully represented a number of manufacturers and distributors in cases demanding waivers of costs wherein it was either proved that products were not the cause or that the products at fault were not theirs
