Goldberg Segalla added associate Ogechi O. Onyeani to the law firm’s Workers’ Compensation Practice Group in Newark. She was previously a public defender in Newark, and graduated from Michigan State University College of Law.
Ogechi brings wide-ranging legal experience and interests to the firm. In her previous roles as a trial attorney, she has represented both individuals and organizations and developed an understanding of the legal process at every stage. Before earning her J.D., Ogechi was a summer associate at Dickinson Wright in Detroit, Michigan; she was also a law clerk in the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and continued to cultivate her interest in environmental law as a legal fellow at the Eastern Environmental Law Center in Newark.
Throughout her legal career and earlier studies, Ogechi has demonstrated a dedication to defending the vulnerable and disenfranchised, in extensive pro bono work throughout the state of New Jersey; as a student, she traveled to New Orleans to help victims of Hurricane Katrina prepare and file tax returns. In addition, as a Law Guardian in Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties, she represented children who were victims of abuse and/or neglect. As a public defender for the city of Newark, Ogechi has been a passionate legal representative for indigent citizens facing criminal and motor vehicle charges.
