Goldberg Segalla is pleased to announce that Madeline S. Baio and Jennifer M. Mannion have joined the law firm in its Philadelphia office. Their diverse capabilities and extensive trial and litigation experience enhance the offerings of the firm’s Professional Liability, Product Liability, Labor and Employment, General Liability, Global Insurance Services, and Food and Beverage Practice Groups.
Ms. Baio, a partner, brings to the firm experience representing a wide range of clients including product manufacturers, retailers, trucking companies, national pharmacy chains, supermarkets, food production companies, and restaurants. She has litigated cases involving product liability, pharmacy malpractice, premises liability, and employment-related issues, and she has tried cases to verdict in federal and state courts. She is Chair of the Employment Practices Committee of the National Retail and Restaurant Defense Association (NRRDA).
Ms. Baio’s experience includes obtaining a defense verdict in a product liability case involving claims of manufacturing defect against a seat belt manufacturer following a two-week jury trial with damages alleged in excess of $16 million. She obtained summary judgment on behalf of a global manufacturer against an employee’s claims of interference and retaliation under the Family Medical Leave Act which was recently affirmed in a precedent-setting opinion by the Third Circuit. In addition, she successfully defends supermarket chains in premises liability claims obtaining defense awards, nominal settlements, successful third-party tenders, and favorable mediation outcomes and binding arbitration awards. She also defends a national drug store chain in connection with pharmacy malpractice, premises liability, and false arrest claims, as well as defending multidistrict litigation concerning failure to warn and other drug-related claims.
Ms. Baio received her juris doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 1984 and a bachelor of arts degree from Clark University in 1981.
Ms. Mannion, an associate, concentrates her practice on insurance, premises liability, retail liability, commercial motor vehicle, and product liability litigation. She has represented insurance companies in the defense of first-party claims, declaratory judgment actions, and coverage disputes, and in civil suits involving claims of fraud, defamation, and RICO violations. In addition, she has defended product manufacturers in litigation involving personal injury and property damage claims, and national pharmacy chains and supermarkets in premises liability matters. She has successfully arbitrated cases in federal and state courts throughout Pennsylvania.
Ms. Mannion is an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at Villanova Law School, from which she received her juris doctor in 2010. She received a bachelor of science degree from Pennsylvania State University in 2006.
