Joseph S. Brown

Joseph S. Brown is a seasoned employment and business litigator who helps clients devise strategies to minimize risk and resolve problems in a cost-effective manner. He counsels and defends the interests of clients facing employment and labor issues, representing private and public sector employers in disputes involving harassment, discrimination, wage and hour claims, restrictive covenants, employment contracts, whistleblower claims, defamation, and other tort claims. Joe provides day-to-day advice to employers on a broad array of workplace issues, including compliance with the ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and paid sick and family leave laws. Joe also advises employers regarding employee disciplinary issues, terminations, and employee investigations, and drafts employment and separation agreements.
In addition to his employment practice, Joe has significant experience litigating complex business disputes as well as representing municipalities, public officials, and school districts in high-profile matters involving civil rights claims, First Amendment retaliation, NY Education Law, Article 78 proceedings, and other municipal law matters. He has tried multiple cases, led numerous administrative hearings, and successfully briefed and argued nearly 20 appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and numerous appeals in state appellate courts.
