Richard J. Cohen Quoted in "Partnership is the Holy Grail for Law Firm Associates," Buffalo Law Journal February 1, 2016

In a piece that examines how — and why — law firms elevate associates to partner, Goldberg Segalla Managing Partner Richard J. Cohen reveals to the Buffalo Law Journal how the firm’s partnership track is unique among its counterparts. Noting that “typical” law firm models follow a pretty straightforward partnership path — where an attorney practices for a number of years, bills a certain number of hours, and is then promoted to partner — Rick explains to the Journal that Goldberg Segalla looks at the bigger picture.

 “We’re very different in that respect,” Rick tells the BLJ. “We don’t believe that simply generating business or bringing in business, in and of itself, makes somebody a good partner. We happen to believe that how you lead and interact with each other is the most important criteria.”

As Rick notes,  developing business is indeed important at Goldberg Segalla, but the firm also promotes associates who demonstrate other abilities that can help it succeed.
