Goldberg Segalla a Member of Minority Corporate Counsel Association Law Firm Affiliate Network

August 10, 2011

Goldberg Segalla is proud to be a member of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) Firm Affiliate Network, which was created by the MCCA to assist and acknowledge law firms that are committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Membership in the Firm Affiliate Network requires a demonstrated commitment to 10 principles, which MCCA research determined to be hallmarks to advancing diversity. Among these requirements are a standing diversity committee, inclusion of diverse attorneys on key business development opportunities and work assignments, a mentoring program that considers the needs of diverse attorneys, adoption of viable work/life balance and flextime programs, and demonstrated support of minority bar associations.

Goldberg Segalla puts those principles into action through its Diversity Task Force, a team of partners and associates from across the firm’s offices that works to create programs, schedule events, establish diversity initiatives, set long-term goals, and develop the strategy to recruit and retain people from diverse backgrounds. The Task Force promotes the firm’s commitment to diversity both inside and outside the firm, including efforts to reach out to the legal community to increase diversity in the legal profession as a whole. These efforts include sponsoring and organizing Success in the City, an annual diversity networking event; serving as the founding law firm participant in a diversity-focused clerkship program created through a partnership between the Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY) and the University at Buffalo Law School; and supporting the diversity efforts of numerous organizations, including the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, MBAWNY, and many more.

Through our active leadership, we received the Buffalo Niagara Human Resource Association’s Diversity Excellence Award in 2010. Additionally, Joseph M. Hanna, Chair of our Diversity Task Force, also serves as President of the MBAWNY and has received its Community Service Award for his leadership in Success in the City and working with inner city students to help better their lives.
