Goldberg Segalla Names New Partners

Goldberg Segalla is pleased to announce the law firm has elected to its partnership Edward K. Kitt, Kathleen J. Martin, Jill C. Owens, Kenneth A. Patricia, Lisa M. Robinson, Matthew R. Shindell, Sean T. Stadelman, and Stacy A. Tees. All previously held the position of special counsel.

The promotions highlight the dynamic and organic growth that, in only 13 years, has earned the firm a spot on the NLJ 350 list of the largest U.S. law firms and international recognition as the 2014 Law Firm of the Year at the Reactions London Market Awards, among other honors. These attorneys represent the broad range of practices offered by the firm, including Global Insurance Services, Product Liability, Professional Liability, Workers’ Compensation, and General Liability.

Edward K. Kitt, of the Garden City office, has over 30 years of experience protecting the interests of clients in all aspects of alternative dispute resolution and civil litigation, including arbitration, mediation, and trial. He represents owners, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, and employers in matters involving New York Labor Law accident claims; contractual, coverage, and risk-transfer issues; and elevator and escalator liability. Ed also represents the hospitality and restaurant industry with premises, security, and dram shop claims, and he also has handled toxic torts, including cases involving mold and lead poisoning.

Kathleen J. Martin, of the Buffalo office, has more than 12 years of experience handling complex, high-exposure litigation involving catastrophic injuries and intricate theories of negligence. She defends pharmaceutical and medical device companies in product liability actions, represents medical providers in medical malpractice suits alleging severe injuries and wrongful death, and defends appliance manufacturers in product liability cases involving injuries resulting from fires. Kathleen also has extensive experience representing clients in the retail and hospitality industries, including department stores and hotels, in complex negligence cases. In addition, her experience includes matters involving municipal liability, labor law, and insurance law.

Jill C. Owens, of the White Plains office, concentrates her practice in the areas of class action defense, products liability, FINRA arbitration, directors and officers liability, and insurance coverage litigation. In her more than two decades of practice, she has handled complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts nationwide. Jill has appeared on behalf of a range of clients including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and individuals. She has litigated numerous class actions nationwide in all phases, including class discovery, class certification, successful appeal of class certification determinations, and through class notice. She has made law at the federal appellate level concerning application of the Class Action Fairness Act.

Kenneth A. Patricia, of the Buffalo office, has more than three decades of experience handling high-exposure liability claims. He has taken approximately 60 jury trials to verdict, including cases involving personal injury, automobile liability, labor law, medical malpractice, and premises liability. His clients have included household-name department stores, home improvement stores, supermarket chains, and insurers. He has also handled cases involving product liability and municipal liability.

Lisa M. Robinson, of the Syracuse office, concentrates her practice on the defense of catastrophic personal injury and death cases. An experienced litigator in product liability defense cases and transportation, she has participated in the defense of manufacturers of products and medical devices. In addition, she has worked on cases involving bus crashes and large numbers of injured passengers, and she has both investigated truck accidents and defended motor carriers. Lisa’s practice also includes commercial litigation, product liability, general and municipal liability litigation, and asbestos litigation.

Matthew R. Shindell, of the Philadelphia office, concentrates his practice in the defense of product liability matters involving consumer products and industrial equipment. Matt also defends medical malpractice claims against physicians, medical practice groups, hospitals, community clinics, and nurses. He is a contributor and Co-Editor of the firm’s Product Liability Playbook: Insights Into Product Liability, Risk Avoidance, and Consumer Fraud Class Actions blog.

Sean T. Stadelman, of the Philadelphia office, has experience litigating complex product liability, commercial, and professional liability matters in both federal and state courts involving single plaintiffs and large, consolidated mass actions. He works with clients in a variety of industries, including medical device manufacturers, vehicle manufacturers and trucking companies, and consumer product businesses.

Stacy A. Tees, of the Philadelphia office, focuses her practice on all aspects of workers’ compensation law, including conducting and participating in the deposition of medical experts and fact witnesses, advising clients in preparation for litigation, and the presentation of matters before workers’ compensation judges, the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, and Commonwealth Court. She represents employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
