Goldberg Segalla added Avery Aulds to the firm’s Defense Base Act and War Hazards Compensation Act group in Manhattan.
Avery represents government contractors and their insurance carriers in claims under the Defense Base Act (DBA), an extension of the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act that provides workers’ compensation coverage to civilian employees working overseas. She also advises clients on War Hazards Compensation Act (WHCA) claims, pursuing reimbursement for DBA benefits paid when an injury is determined to be war-risk related. Avery’s experience spans both defense and prosecution. Before entering private practice, she served as an assistant district attorney in the Special Victims Bureau and Human Trafficking Unit of the King’s County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn. She has also worked with the North Carolina Public Defender’s Office, the North Carolina Department of Justice, and the Supreme Court of North Carolina.
Avery earned a B.S. from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, an LL.M. from the King’s College School of Law, and her J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
