Goldberg Segalla added Michael D. Silverman to the firm’s Toxic Tort and Environmental Law practice groups in Manhattan.
An accomplished and results-driven litigator, Michael has a history of success managing multiparty mass tort and complex product liability disputes as well as counseling clients on a range of legal, regulatory, and commercial matters and their impact on the business environment. He defends Fortune 500 companies, including manufacturers and distributors of consumer and intermediary goods and equipment, creating and implementing litigation strategies to achieve his clients’ overarching goals. Skilled at managing all aspects of litigation, Michael has extensive experience working as local and national counsel in asbestos litigation, and coordinating with clients and carriers to control costs and handle the full range of legal issues affecting clients in high-volume product liability litigation. In all his work, Michael incorporates strategies to further diversity, equity, and inclusion into legal services to provide clients with the best litigation team possible.
Michael founded the nonprofit civil rights organization Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (now known as Advocates for Trans Equality) and was its executive director for more than a decade. He has litigated civil rights actions in state and federal courts, including before the United States Supreme Court. His experience also includes serving as special counsel for the New York City Commission on Human Rights as well as positions with New York Lawyers for the Public Interest and NARAL Pro-Choice America.
In addition to his role at Goldberg Segalla, Michael is Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law in New York City. He earned his B.A. from Vassar College and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
