Jeffrey L. Kingsley Quoted in “Lawsuits in Chemical Spill That Fouled W.Va. River Will Target Insurance,” Business Insurance
Jeffrey L. Kingsley, a partner in Goldberg Segalla’s Global Insurance Services and Environmental Practice Groups, was interviewed extensively by Business Insurance on the insurance and liability impacts of the recent hazardous chemical release in a river near Charleston, West Virginia.
Jeff discussed a range of implications, including business interruption and personal injury claims, uncertainty regarding the injuries sustained from exposure to the relatively new coal-processing chemical methylcyclohexane methanol, and the important role procedures taken by potential defendants will play as lawsuits continue to build up.
“There’s real liability exposure based on what the water treatment plant did or did not do,” Jeff told Business Insurance. “Did they follow their own protocols to make sure the water they were distributing was safe?”
