Joseph Hanna Discusses Goldberg Segalla’s New Delaware Office, Firm’s Future with Legal Community
Goldberg Segalla Hiring Partner Joseph M. Hanna sat down with Buffalo Business First, the New York Law Journal, and Law360 Pulse to share insights on the firm’s newest office in Wilmington, Delaware. Joe explained the strategic reasoning behind selecting Wilmington as an expansion destination, ways in which the firm grew in 2024, and what to expect from Goldberg Segalla in 2025 and beyond.
Discussing the rationale behind the expansion into Delaware, Joe told the New York Law Journal “this opening was driven by client needs,” and he expounded on that sentiment with Buffalo Business First, saying, “we’ve had client inquiries in Delaware for many years, so it made sense for us to open the office there, and we found a strong partner to lead it.”
That partner, Scott T. Earle, is a leading commercial litigation attorney with a plethora of experience working in Delaware’s business community and court system, and Joe believes Earle was the missing puzzle piece to make everything come together. In discussing Earle with Law360 Pulse, he said the firm had been eyeing a Delaware location for a while, and when Earle joined the firm, they found the right person for the job. “Scott is a perfect fit for us,” he said. “He’s a real trial lawyer and fits into our culture perfectly.”
Joe told Buffalo Business First the Wilmington office will focus on the areas of law in which Earle has expertise, including construction and commercial litigation. “It’s been a growth strategy that’s worked for Goldberg Segalla for years – hiring an experienced partner in a geographic area and building out an office around their practice areas.”
The expansion was also made possible due to the growth of the firm, as Joe explained to the New York Law Journal that 2024 was a banner year for Goldberg Segalla in a number of critical metrics. “I’m very proud to say we had a record year in 2024,” Joe said. “We’re ending the year with our highest attorney count, and our attrition has been minimal in terms of departures, which is a challenge in this day and age in the legal universe.”
He continued to discuss the 2025 outlook, telling the New York Law Journal “we’ll continue to grow our footprint and our practice areas within our 23-office footprint.”
Joe told Buffalo Business First that there is plenty of work, saying the firm is “busier than ever.”
He added that the labor and employment sector has been a major driver of growth, and the firm remains steadfast in capitalizing on this growth, noting labor and employment counseling work has increased dramatically in recent years. “It’s impactful for every business, from the small mom-and-pop shops to the Fortune 100 companies,” he said. “It’s an area we’re always looking to grow in and make sure we can cover across all of our states and clients.”
