Joseph M. Hanna, Chair of Goldberg Segalla’s Sports and Entertainment Practice Group, was interviewed by the Buffalo Law Journal on the potential impact of the controversial National Labor Relations Board ruling that Northwestern University football players could be treated as employees and therefore unionize.

Noting that he expected the ruling to have little to no impact on programs at state universities, he added that private schools could potentially copy the Northwestern model and work toward unionization. Still, he said, arguing for a program to unionize would be a difficult sell.

“At the end of the day, there needs to be a very extensive look into how this is being ruled,” Joe told the Buffalo Law Journal. “Explain to a person on the street in any place exactly what an employee is and I’d be shocked if eight or nine of them said they didn’t believe this ruling was ridiculous.”
