New Jersey Committee Prohibits Treatment of Fracking Wastewater In New Jersey
December 16, 2011
New Jersey’s moratorium on fracking is now likely to extend to treating wastewater from fracking operations in other states. New Jersey’s Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee recently voted to prohibit sewage treatment plants from treating fracking wastewater from Marcellus Shale drilling. The committee’s vote is not binding legislation. Proponents of fracking point out that New Jersey’s moratorium on fracking as well as treating any of the wastewater will result in New Jersey missing out on a potential economic boom for the region.
