Peter J. Biging Hosts Second Episode of ‘The Precipice’ Podcast Series
Peter J. Biging, partner and co-chair of Goldberg Segalla’s Management and Professional Liability practice group, once again serves as host for the second episode of “The Precipice,” a podcast series presented by the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS).
The series highlights important topics in management and professional liability. Each episode features conversations with experts on the subject, including professional liability claims and underwriting executives, as well as ethicists and leading lawyers involved in the prosecution and defense of management and professional liability claims.
The guests for the episode are Kelly Geary, managing principal with EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants, and Nick Spano, U.S. product leader, Turnkey Reinsurance of Beazley.
The trio focuses on rapidly evolving cyber liability risks, new risks on the horizon and how underwriters are adjusting and modifying their coverage requirements.
Peter opens the episode by underscoring some of the staggering statistics regarding the increase in global cybercrime and the ever growing reliance our society places on well-functioning computer systems.
“To get things started, let me start off with offering some statistics to try and set the stage,” he began. “Some of these I found just mind boggling. According to Statista, the global cost of cybercrime is expected to surge in the next four years, rising from 9.22 trillion in 2024 to 13.82 trillion by 2028. The amount of data in the world is expected to reach 175 zettabytes by next year. That’s the number 175 followed by 21 zeros. This data includes everything from information contained on document management systems, and email accounts to healthcare data, to all manner of data collected and stored regarding clients, business strategies, trade secrets and business operations.”
