Six Goldberg Segalla Attorneys Listed in 2013 New Jersey Super Lawyers
Caroline J. Berdzik, Robert M. Hanlon, Jr., Robert M. Hanlon, Sr., Anita Hotchkiss, Matthew S. Marrone, and David S. Osterman, partners in the law firm Goldberg Segalla LLP, were named in the 2013 New Jersey edition of Super Lawyers, a ranking of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Mr. Hanlon, Jr., Mr. Hanlon, Sr., Ms. Hotchkiss, and Mr. Osterman have been recognized in the category of Personal Injury Defense: Products, while Ms. Berdzik has been recognized in the category of Employment Litigation: Defense and Mr. Marrone has been recognized in the category of Professional Liability: Defense.
Robert M. Hanlon, Jr. concentrates his practice on the defense of product liability, transportation, and catastrophic personal injury litigation. A member of the Product Liability Advisory Council, he represents manufacturers of automobiles and trucks, consumer products, children’s toys, and industrial equipment. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and serves on the National Board of Directors for the American Board of Trial. He is an active trial attorney who has tried more than 30 cases to verdict in nine states. Mr. Hanlon recently served on a New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education panel addressing the use of accident reconstruction and bio-mechanics experts in automotive litigation.
Robert M. Hanlon, Sr. concentrates his practice in the areas of product liability, transportation, and catastrophic personal injury litigation. He has represented manufacturers in product liability litigation throughout the United States for more than 40 years, at both the national and local levels, and he has tried dozens of cases to verdict in seven states. He is a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council and the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Hanlon is also a mediator and a member of the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators.
Anita Hotchkiss has over 35 years of experience defending companies and individuals in the state and federal trial and appellate courts. Her practice emphasizes complex pharmaceutical, medical device, and other products liability cases, mass torts, class actions, and medical and legal professional liability matters. She secured one of the first “junk science” dismissals in the country on the basis of Daubert v. Merrell Dow and has been involved in numerous other cutting edge cases. Ms. Hotchkiss is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney, and she is a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council and the American Board of Trial Advocates. She recently received the prestigious William A. Dreier Award for Excellence in Product Liability Law from the New Jersey State Bar Association.
David S. Osterman is a senior partner resident in Goldberg Segalla’s Princeton office. He concentrates his practice in handling complex civil litigation for manufacturers, retailers, and distributors of a wide variety of products including pharmaceutical and medical device products, consumer products, and food products. He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and is certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court. Mr. Osterman has tried more than 45 cases to verdict in five different states and the District of Columbia. He has also served as lead counsel in the successful defense of several state and national class actions involving claims of product liability, consumer fraud, breach of warranty, and medical monitoring.
Caroline J. Berdzik was recognized as a 2013 Rising Star. She co-chairs the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, focuses her practice on representing corporate clients in various industries such as health care, insurance, trucking, and nonprofit organizations and religious institutions in employment law issues, from counseling through trial. She routinely provides strategic business advice to employers on critical human resource issues that arise out of the employment relationship from hiring to termination, with an emphasis on preventing future disputes. Ms. Berdzik defends companies in discrimination, harassment, retaliation, family medical leave, and wage/hour actions in federal and state courts and alternative dispute resolution forums. She also advises businesses in the area of restrictive covenants and provides practical in-house training on a multitude of human resources topics for employers.
Matthew S. Marrone was recognized as a 2013 Rising Star. He focuses his practice primarily on the defense of lawyers, insurance agents, and other miscellaneous professionals in litigation involving alleged errors, omissions, or malpractice. Mr. Marrone’s experience also includes matters involving non-profit directors’ and officers’ liability, governmental liability, civil rights and employment issues, product liability, trademark/copyright infringement, and death/catastrophic injury litigation. He also frequently counsels and represents insurers in coverage disputes. He gained national recognition as Chair (20092011) of the Professional Liability Committee of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the largest organization of defense attorneys in the country.
