William Edwins focuses his practice on complex insurance coverage analysis and litigation. He has over 15 years of experience representing national and international insurance companies, Lloyd’s of London brokers and syndicates, third-party administrators, and insureds in matters involving a broad range of coverage issues.

A partner in the Garden City Office, William handles matters from claim through trial with a track record of obtaining successful results through litigation, strategic settlement, mediation, and arbitration.  A small sampling of his experience includes serving as the lead attorney on a multimillion-dollar coverage matter for a major international insurer, a successful defense of a Lloyd’s syndicate in the World Trade Center trial, summary judgment on a high exposure coverage action in the District Court of Maryland, and numerous state and federal court wins on a variety of coverage topics.

Aside from his litigation experience, William regularly provides coverage advice, prepares opinions and position letters, responds to coverage determination challenges, and drafts policy language for insurance policies.  The broad range of his experience includes matters involving professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, commercial auto, motor cargo, marine, bodily injury, property damage, Coverage B, first party property, and excess and umbrella claims.  In addition, he has handled unique and specialized technology, abuse and molestation, ransom and kidnapping, pharmaceutical, and ultra high-end collector car claims.  He also remains the point person for a large, publically traded financial holding corporation, which includes five independent insurance companies.

While pursuing his law degree, William was a law clerk at the New York Stock Exchange’s Office of the General Counsel, where he acted as a liaison between the office and the SEC, Federal Reserve, and other federal agencies. During college, he served as an assistant law clerk for Judge Joanna Seybert in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and was a legislative intern for the New York State Assembly.
