Colleen M. Murphy Quoted in “Insurance Brokers Should Brace For Sandy Suits After NY Ruling,” Law360

Colleen M. Murphy, co-chair of Goldberg Segalla’s insurance agents and brokers practice within its Professional Liability Practice Group, was interviewed by Law360 in an article highlighting the potential implications of a November 2012 New York Court of Appeals ruling that policyholders who haven’t read their insurance policies still have the right to sue their brokers.

Colleen noted that victims from Hurricane Sandy are likely to sue insurance agents and brokers as a fallback plan if their insurers don’t provide coverage. “You’re going to see plaintiffs’ attorneys suing agents and brokers in every case, almost as a knee-jerk reaction,” she told Law360. “There’s opportunity there, if they didn’t pay for and get the coverage that was enough in light of this hurricane, to now get it after the fact by suing the broker.”
