Goldberg Segalla Sees Chambers USA Ranks in Employment and Labor, Commercial Litigation, Insurance, and Construction in 2023

Two Goldberg Segalla practice groups, along with outstanding individual lawyers throughout the firm, saw top placement and individual recognitions in the 2023 edition of Chambers USA, the annual guidebook to the best lawyers and law firms in the United States.

Employment and Labor

Goldberg Segalla earned a Band 2 ranking for Labor and Employment in Upstate New York. The firm’s Upstate New York Employment and Labor practice “maintains a respected practice group known for its representation of municipalities across upstate New York, handling day-to-day employment counseling, litigation and traditional labor services,” Chambers noted.

“The team exhibits strengths in a number of areas, from dismissal challenges to a diverse range of discrimination claims as well as handling labor relations, including employment contracts, collective bargaining and pension fund negotiations,” they further noted.

“Everyone I have spoken to at the firm is knowledgeable, fast and focused on helping us achieve our goals,” one client said in the ranking.

Christopher P. Maugans earned the Band Up and Coming. A partner in Goldberg Segalla’s Labor and Employment practice, he has “a growing reputation for his adept handling of a wide array of employment litigation and labor matters.” Chris’s work with a diverse pool of clients including municipalities was pointed out as well.

Commercial Litigation

For the ninth consecutive year, Goldberg Segalla ranks among the preeminent law firms in the General Commercial Litigation category for Upstate New York in Chambers USA, placing in Band 3.

Chambers noted the firm’s Upstate New York Commercial Litigation practice for its legal advice which “ranges from day-to-day and regulatory guidance to litigation derived from multi-jurisdictional transactions, with notable expertise in shareholder litigation, class actions and intellectual property disputes.” The firm’s experience representing sectors and industries such as financial services, retail, construction, energy, and sports and entertainment were also recognized by Chambers.

In addition, Chair Christopher J. Belter was ranked in Band 3 for individual attorneys. Chris was highlighted by Chambers for his “in-depth expertise in contentious construction matters, alongside wider strengths in securities litigation and energy disputes.”

Insurance

Philadelphia-based partner Michael A. Hamilton earned recognition in Band 3 for Chambers USA’s Pennsylvania Insurance directory. “He has vast experience in insurance coverage claims, liability issues and commercial litigation, as well as in appellate work,” the guide noted.

Construction

Christopher J. Belter was also ranked in Band 3 for Construction attorneys in New York. Chambers emphasized his “active practice across all kinds of construction litigation, ADR and contract review matters,” and that he “often represents specialty contractors involved in significant energy infrastructure projects.” Chris additionally serves as co-chair of the firm’s Construction practice group.
