Goldberg Segalla partner Larry D. Mason and his wife, Susan Mason, have been honored with the first ever “Honorable Menschen” award by Makom Solel Lakeside, a reform Jewish congregation in Highland Park, Illinois. The “Honorable Menschen” recognizes the decades of contributions the Masons have made to the community.

Larry served in many capacities as a long-term lay leader, including as president of legacy Congregation Solel, and was selected as one of the two Solel Ambassadors to explore fusion with Lakeside Congregation, which transitioned to his service on the Steering Committee to provide executive leadership for all aspects of the historic merger that resulted in Makom Solel Lakeside now celebrating its Fifth Anniversary. Susan has also prioritized active involvement in the community, working on the Tikkun Olan and Fine Arts Committees, as a board member, and singer in the synagogue choir along with Larry.

“Larry and Susie, and their beautiful family, have been an ever-present part of the congregation and its predecessor, Congregation Solel, serving as leaders in every way,” said David Morrison, vice president of development for Makom Solel Lakeside. “There is no more fitting couple to receive this inaugural award than Larry and Susie.”

In addition to their volunteer work in the Jewish community, the Masons also devote their time and talents to other non-profit organizations. Susan, an artist and art teacher, is president of the Deerfield Family Theater Board and has a leadership role in the local chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Violence Prevention. Larry serves on the Student Affairs Council and is a past president of the Dad’s Association at the University of Illinois where he also successfully completed his leadership role in developing the Illini Dads Centennial Plaza. He is also a member of the boards of the Deerfield Family Theater and the Uptown Music Theater of Highland Park, where he is currently the producer of “Les Misérables” to benefit the Highland Park Shooting Recovery Fund.
