Meghan M. Brown and Susan E. Van Gelder Named to Top 25 Women among Upstate New York Super Lawyers

In addition to being among the 42 Goldberg Segalla attorneys recognized in the 2023 Upstate New York edition of Super Lawyers, partners Meghan M. Brown and Susan E. Van Gelder are also receiving special recognition. The two have been named to the Top 25 Women Upstate New York Super Lawyers list, considered “The Best of the Best.”

Each year, Super Lawyers recognizes the top lawyers in Upstate New York via a multiphase selection process involving peer nomination, independent research, and peer evaluation. The Upstate New York lawyers who receive the highest point totals during this selection process are further recognized in the Upstate New York Super Lawyers Top Lists.

Meghan, partner and vice chair in the firm’s Civil Litigation and Trial group, focuses her practice on civil litigation and trial as well as appellate advocacy, including matters involving personal injury, construction, and professional liability. She also serves in a leadership role as a co-chair of the Appellate group. Meghan represents medical professionals and health care facilities in professional liability claims, and regularly defends therapists, nurses, lawyers and other professionals in matters involving their licensing boards. Delivering thought leadership to both her clients and the legal profession, Meghan lectures on premises liability and appellate procedure, and co-edited a chapter of the New York State Bar Association’s treatise on preparing for and trying the civil lawsuit.

Susan, partner in the Toxic Tort and Product Liability groups, concentrates her practice on toxic tort, product liability, and general litigation, maintaining a primary focus on defending clients in complex asbestos cases. With 20 years of experience representing manufacturers of asbestos-containing equipment and component parts in lawsuits spanning the Northeast, she uses her deep well of knowledge of asbestos litigation to develop tailored defense strategies and find expedited paths to resolution.
