Tom Segalla, one of the founding partners of the firm, was appointed as a board member for the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence (NFJE).

The NFJE is a 501(c) (3) charity organization dedicated to connecting bar associations, law schools, think tanks, and other non-profit organizations in an effort to strengthen and preserve the civil justice system. Its mission is to address legal policy issues affecting the law and civil justice system by providing meaningful support and education by publishing scholarly works and by engaging in other efforts to continually enhance, strength and preserve judicial excellence. Tom, along with the other board members, officers, and staff, will be responsible for working with NFJE’s committees, which include Ethics, Fundraising, Governance, Program Content, Public Relations, Publications, and Visionary.

A widely respected attorney and recognized authority on matters pertaining to bad faith, reinsurance, and insurance coverage, Tom is also a leading member of numerous legal and business organizations, including the Defense Research Institute (DRI), where he currently serves on the organization’s Publications Board and Barrister Task Force. Previously, he served as chair of DRI’s Insurance Law Committee, chair of its Law Institute, and as a member of its Board of Directors. He also serves as a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, where he is integrally involved in the relationship between the insurance industry and defense counsel. He is the immediate-past president of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel. Additionally, Tom is an ARIAS-U.S. Certified Arbitrator and mediator.

Tom was named Buffalo Insurance Law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America and the Defense Association of New York (DANY) presented him with its 2014 James S. Conway Award for Outstanding Service to the Defense Community. He was also honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award for Private Practice by the State University of New York at Buffalo Law Alumni Association in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and the community in which he serves.
