Goldberg Segalla LLP is pleased to announce that attorney S. Philip Unwin, a special counsel for the firm and member of its Workers’ Compensation Practice Group, recently earned credentials from the International Commission on Health Care Certification as a Medicare Set-Aside Certified Consultant. A Medicare Set-Aside (MSA) is an allocation for the future medical costs of an individual on Medicare (or soon to be on Medicare) following the settlement of a workers’ compensation case. As a Certified Consultant, Philip is designated as having achieved pre-approved training in Medicare Set-Aside trust arrangements.

Philip’s ICHCC credentials provide Goldberg Segalla clients with a strong competitive advantage in litigation involving workers’ compensation and liability situations. He has been defending workers’ compensation claims and Section 120 discrimination claims since 2005, and has handled hundreds of trials at the Workers’ Compensation Board. To achieve ICHCC certification, Philip took a 30-hour training course and multiple exams, and submitted a sample Medicare Set-Aside calculation and letter to Medicare.

Philip received his B.A. from the University of Rochester and his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.
