Meghan Brown, a Buffalo-based partner in the firm’s Civil Litigation and Appellate practices, was honored with this year’s prestigious Sherwood Civility Award by the Defense Trial Lawyers Association of Western New York. The honor is awarded annually to attorneys demonstrating exceptional civility, character and integrity.

A widely respected litigator and thought leader, Meghan’s practice includes personal injury, construction, and professional liability. She represents medical professionals and health-care facilities in professional liability claims, and regularly defends therapists, nurses, lawyers and other professionals in matters involving their licensing boards.

Meghan serves in a leadership role as a vice chair of the Civil Litigation and Trial practice group, and is co-chair of its Appellate group. Named repeatedly to the upstate New York list of Super Lawyers for her outstanding work, she is also a frequent lecturer on premises liability and appellate procedure, and co-edited a chapter of the New York State Bar Association’s treatise on preparing for and trying the civil lawsuit.

With more than a decade as a civil litigator in private practice, Meghan also draws on experience earned serving for two years as a law clerk at the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department, in Rochester. She has served on the Judiciary Committee for the Bar Association of Erie County and as co-chair of the Access to Justice Committee for the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York at the state level.

The DTLA Sherwood Civility Award is given in honor and memory of Neil Sherwood, an attorney who exhibited outstanding qualities including a commitment to his profession and volunteer work as a fireman, making him a model among his fellow defense trial lawyers.
