The Fourth Edition of the Reinsurance Professional’s Deskbook is Now Available, Featuring Thomas F. Segalla and Larry D. Mason as Co-Editors-in-Chief
Thomas F. Segalla, a founding partner of Goldberg Segalla, once again led a team of attorneys in developing the fourth edition of the Reinsurance Professional’s Deskbook. The Deskbook continues to be seen globally as the insurance industry’s premier anthology of work, authored by the leaders around the world of insurance and reinsurance. Tom and Goldberg Segalla partner Larry D. Mason served as Co-Editors-in-Chief for the Deskbook 2022 fourth edition that was co-published by Thomson Reuters and DRI.
The Deskbook evaluates and brings clarity to historical concepts of reinsurance while also practically applying these concepts to the state of the current insurance market. This anthology presents insight into the most frequent issues addressed, arbitrated, and litigated as the current reinsurance legal landscape shifts. With an ever-changing reinsurance environment, the contributing authors provide understanding into traditional insurance and reinsurance concepts, rules, and challenges as criticisms reign in from the insurance industry and financial markets on traditional reinsurance models and principles. The Deskbook covers important decisions from the last several years and provides a practical approach to dealing with some of the major regulatory, coverage, and claims issues including, collection strategies, payment protocol, industry investigation, management of disputes, exhaustion, late notice, and the relationship of reinsurers and cedents at various stages.
In addition to the fourth edition, Tom also served as the editor in chief for the first three editions of the Deskbook. Tom is a nationally recognized authority on reinsurance and insurance. He has been retained as counsel and as a consultant by numerous major insurance carriers and policyholders in more than 40 jurisdictions nationally and internationally, and has served as an expert witness in more than 100 bad faith, coverage, and extracontractual cases across the country. Tom serves on the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel’s Reinsurance, Excess, and Surplus Lines Section, as well as on the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Insurance/Reinsurance Section. He regularly authors articles and presents on trends and issues impacting the reinsurance industry, and has been recognized by Expert Guides and Who’s Who Legal for his work in insurance and reinsurance every year since 2014.
