Experience
Bruce M. Engel focuses his practice on a wide range of complex insurance and reinsurance litigation, arbitrations, mediations, coverage analysis, and counseling. He represents insurers and reinsurers in coverage and reinsurance disputes, using litigation, arbitration, and negotiated settlements to achieve the best business outcome for his clients.
In the area of reinsurance, Bruce is experienced with issues related to the underwriting, placement, and claims handling of facultative and treaty reinsurance contracts. He routinely represents parties in arbitrations where claims are valued in multimillions of dollars and involve all forms of reinsurance claims and underwriting disputes such as misrepresentation, allocation, late notice, coverage for expenses, and application of follow the fortunes.
Also highly experienced in insurance coverage, Bruce has been lead counsel on cases involving environmental, coal ash, lead paint, product liability, asbestos, and pharmaceuticals, as well as professional liability matters. His representation of insurers in these matters includes a number of successful jury trials.
