Goldberg Segalla added two partners to the firm’s Workers’ Compensation team in California: Thomas P. Mastro in the Los Angeles office and Jim. L. Zoellner in the Orange County office.

“We could not be more excited to bring on Thomas and Jim to the growing workers’ compensation team in California,” said Joshua J. Roberts, the firm’s leader of the Workers’ Compensation group in California, and co-chair of the firm’s national Sports and Entertainment practice. “The additions bring over 30 years of legal experience to an extremely dynamic workers’ compensation group we have assembled. With growing client demand, we are thrilled to add these experienced professionals and excellent team players. We are excited for the future, and the great things Thomas and Jim will do for our client community locally in California as well as nationally.”

Thomas focuses his practice on workers’ compensation, employment, and civil litigation for a wide variety of clients including large self-insured international employers, third-party administrators, and insurance carriers. Among his diverse client community, he is held in particularly high regard as a trusted counselor and defender of numerous NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL teams and franchises. Thomas works closely with clients and risk managers to update business strategies and restructure operations to ensure compliance and minimize the risk of workplace injuries. Thomas is co-founder of Lace It Up for Charity, an organization focused on giving back to the community by raising money for the homeless, underprivileged youth and at-risk youth, and a variety of other charitable causes. He earned his bachelor’s at the University of California at Santa Barbara with honors and his juris doctor at the California Western School of Law.

Jim, a certified specialist in workers’ compensation law, has over 30 years of claims-handling and litigation experience, both in-house and in private practice. He focuses on counseling and defending insurers, third-party administrators, and large self-insured employers across a variety of industries, representing his clients at all levels of hearings before the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board and Appellate Courts. Jim draws on experience as the former managing partner of Floyd Skeren Manukian Langevin and hearing representative for Pacific States Casualty Company. His career in workers’ compensation began in 1984, when he worked as a claims representative for Travelers Insurance Company. Jim received his bachelor’s degree and his juris doctor from Western State University College of Law.
